NOT FOR SALE SUNDAY - 18th May 2008

Not for Sale Sunday. Is an opportunity to say that womens, childrens and mens bodies are Not for Sale. Women and Children and Men are made in the image of God, and we are called to enable that image to grow, develop, and be reflected in all our lives, for everybody, no matter their age, race, creed or gender.

It is estimated that over 4,000 women are trafficked into the UK every year. We have evidence of over 80 young people who have been trafficked into the UK for sexual exploitation over the last 3 years.

In Suffolk earlier this year 5 young British women were murdered whilst going about their work as street prostitutes. They experienced the worst excesses of malevolence and brutality as victims of a multiple murderer. Over the last ten years as many as 60 women have been murdered whilst working in prostitution. Just under half of those working on the street report violent attacks on them. The market for pay-as-you-go sex is growing across Europe.

Not for Sale Sunday is part of a week-end of activities where you and your church, friends, family and colleagues can engage with the issue of sexual exploitation today. There are extensive resources available to help you plan services and events here.
